How San Jose is Utilizing Technology to Solve More Crime and Shape a Safer Community

Situated in the heart of the Bay Area, San Jose, California, is the largest city in Northern California and the 13th-most populous city in the United States.

As with any major city, crime is top-of-mind for elected officials. The city is continually looking for innovative solutions and technology to keep both residents and visitors safe.

After seeing initial success with Flock LPR cameras – from solving robberies and assaults to home invasions and hit-and-runs – the city made the decision to utilize grant funding to more than double the number of Flock cameras across San Jose, bringing the total number of cameras to more than 150.

The cameras have been installed in major intersections across the city, providing crucial evidence for the San Jose Police Department as they conduct investigations. As Mayor Matt Mahan notes, the cameras have proven to be a particularly impactful tool amidst the low staffing levels the department faces.

Police Use Flock to Help Arrest Suspect in a Hit-And-Run Collision

A suspect has been arrested in a hit-and-run case committed nearly a year ago in San Jose. A diligent investigation carried out by San Jose Police Department involved the use of Flock LPR cameras to identify the license plate of the suspect vehicle, and subsequently the suspect driver.

Two Arrested in Alleged Retail Theft Spree Amounting to Upwards of $75,000 in Losses

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a months-long retail theft spree in San Jose. The pair were allegedly involved in more than 70 incidents amounting to over $75,000 in losses for big-box stores such as Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Nike, REI and Target. Police Chief Anthony Mata credits the arrests in part to the state funds allocated specifically to help San Jose combat organized retail theft which includes additional Flock LPR cameras
