The City of Brookhaven, Georgia, home to more than 55,000 residents, sits directly northeast of the bustling city of Atlanta.
In an effort to uphold their mission of enhancing the quality of life for those within their community by providing professional, high quality, and effective police services, the Brookhaven Police Department makes a point to leverage cutting edge public safety technology that will help their officers better serve the community.
Their commitment to being at the forefront of public safety technology was epitomized when Brookhaven became the second city in the country to leverage Drones as First Responders, which allow officers to quickly get eyes on the scene of a crime while reducing the risk of escalation.
Brookhaven was also one of the first cities in Georgia to implement Flock license plate reader (LPR) cameras., This early adopter mentality allowed Brookhaven PD to drastically increase the number of stolen vehicles recovered, supplement investigations of all types of crimes, and clear cases more quickly.
A more recent technology that the department has implemented is Live 911, a software that brings live call listening to patrol officers en route. By providing the crucial details that come through during a 911 call to officers as they are traveling to the scene, no time is wasted and officers are able to approach the situation with all available context, allowing them to confidently take action.
Watch to hear directly from former Mayor John Ernst and current Brookhaven PD Sgt. Carlai Moore explain how public safety technology has transformed policing in their community – including a case where they were able to return the victim of a kidnapping to their mother within 20 minutes.
