In getting to know our company, I’m in awe of our folks on the ground, building and deploying our products and services to help keep communities safe. I can’t wait to join them on this journey.

Why Public Safety - An Essential Public Good to Create Healthy, Thriving Communities

Public safety is the most essential public good. It’s the right to feel safe and secure in our homes and neighborhoods, and from this, everything else can follow - strong family bonds, healthy local businesses, thriving public schools and beautiful public spaces. Despite its importance, the pursuit of public safety has largely lived outside the realm of technology tools and services easily accessible in other domains.

Today, in cities and towns across the country, we ask the brave men and women of law enforcement to put themselves on the line to protect the communities they serve. In many cases, they aren’t armed with all available information to help them do their jobs.

We can do better, and Flock is helping to create that change.

Why Flock Safety - A Differentiated Solution Already Making a Measurable Impact

The team at Flock has created the first public safety operating system to help neighborhoods, businesses and local law enforcement work together to eliminate crime. We pair devices to capture objective evidence with machine learning to create and deliver unbiased investigative leads to law enforcement. Our partners have seen reductions in crime by up to 70%.   

Our mission is to eliminate crime, and from everything I’ve seen, I believe Flock will grow to touch hundreds of millions of lives, and here’s why:

1. Flock is a mission-driven organization

It’s easy to connect our work to our north star of eliminating crime. Our meetings begin with an ‘impact’ report from the field, most often a crime solved using our products and services. Across our organization, everyone can speak to why they’re here and doing the work that they do.

When folks are mission-driven, they’ll do whatever it takes to accomplish it.

2. Flock uses technology to solve real problems in the physical world

Our impact comes from both hardware and software solutions for partners. Despite technology improving many parts of our lives, public safety is largely overlooked. Providing solutions for the physical world also adds complexity in a way that pure play software does not. 

Rather than turn away from the hard thing, we leaned into it and made it part of our differentiated offering.

3. Flock defined its ethical standards early in its life

From the beginning, our founders knew that any lasting solution for public safety would need to be sustained by strong, community-level support. This support would come from an operating framework placing ethics at its center.  Ethics have been paramount from the beginning, and our operating principles are clearly shared online. 

It’s not just what we do, but how we choose to do it.

4. Flock’s product pipeline will add more value for customers with time

Our pipeline today is chock-full of more advanced, more reliable, and more diversified hardware and software offerings than are live today. Adding more value for customers with time is the recipe for a lasting company.  Our customers come to us as a trusted partner to help unlock long-term solutions for their communities.

This level of trust with our customers isn’t earned overnight; rather, it’s earned in the field everyday.

5. Flock emerged from COVID-19 as a stronger company 

COVID-19 produced tremendous uncertainty, but it also proved to be a period of outsized growth for our team. Despite the challenges, our folks were in the field and doing the right thing for our customers. Our team has proven to be resilient and customer obsessed during a challenging time.

Resilience and customer obsession help great teams succeed for the long run.

Public Safety Is Personal and a Chance to Serve Others 

Last summer, a burglar broke into my garage while my 3-year-old son slept a few feet away. They thankfully made the decision to leave before entering the house. A single bad-actor crossed a line, put my family at risk, and reminded me that none of us are immune to threats from those that’d do us harm.

These kinds of things shouldn’t be allowed to happen, I thought.

Our work at Flock is a chance to find meaning and fulfillment by serving others. If we’re lucky, that kind of fulfillment is enhanced even more by collaborating with folks alongside us that we trust and respect.  

We’re lucky at this company - we have a clear mission, a great team and the opportunity to solve real problems that impact millions of people everywhere. The road ahead won’t be easy, but it will undoubtedly be worth it.
