At about 10:22 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, Akron police responded to multiple 911 calls about a pedestrian struck at South Main Street and East Miller Avenue. Investigators found that a 38-year-old man was crossing South Main when a southbound vehicle hit him, and the driver left the scene.
Akron Fire Department paramedics took the victim to Cleveland Clinic Akron General with serious injuries, where he died the following evening.
Police identify the vehicle using Flock cameras
Witnesses initially described the vehicle as a black SUV. Using Flock camera evidence, the Akron Police Accident Reconstruction Unit identified the vehicle as a tan Cadillac SRX. Police shared a Flock camera image of the SUV with the public, and on Saturday, Oct. 3, investigators located and recovered the vehicle.
Investigators identify a person of interest
Investigators have identified a person of interest and are working closely with the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office to determine appropriate charges. Within a week, Flock helped investigators move from an uncertain vehicle description to a recovered SUV and an identified person of interest.
