Castle Rock Police Launch Flock DFR for Faster and Safer Response Time
By pairing Flock’s Drone as First Responder technology with its license plate reader network, Castle Rock Police are creating a faster, smarter, and safer model for modern policing.
The Castle Rock Police Department (CRPD) is setting a new standard in community safety with the launch of its Flock Drone as First Responder (DFR) program. In partnership with Flock Safety, CRPD’s DFR system enables officers to respond to incidents faster, gather real-time information, and make more informed decisions before arriving on scene.

Stationed in an automated, battery-swapping dock, CRPD’s DFR can deploy within seconds and reach calls for service across a four-mile radius. With an average response time of just 85 seconds, the technology delivers critical awareness that helps officers better prioritize resources and enhance safety for both the community and responders.
The DFR system is seamlessly integrated with CRPD’s Flock Safety license plate reader network and real-time crime center, helping officers respond more efficiently to alerts involving stolen vehicles, wanted individuals, or missing persons. The department is also the first agency in Colorado authorized to fly drones up to 400 feet without a visual observer, expanding reach and operational flexibility.
