Flock LPR vs. Fixed Video: Same Camera Body, Two Different Jobs

Flock’s LPR and fixed video cameras may look the same, but they don’t work the same way.

Each camera is configured to do one specific job: capture vehicle evidence or provide video. It does not do both at the same time.

One camera body, two ways to use it

Flock uses the same physical camera body for LPR and fixed video. The camera’s configuration – not its appearance – determines what it does.

• LPR cameras capture searchable vehicle images and details, helping organizations detect vehicles of interest and develop investigative leads.
• Fixed video cameras provide a traditional live and recorded video stream, helping organizations see activity at a location.

These are separate configurations. An LPR camera does not also provide fixed video, and a fixed video camera does not also function as an LPR.

Two different experiences

LPR helps find vehicle evidence

Flock LPR captures vehicle images and details – not a continuous video stream. Authorized users can receive real-time alerts for vehicles of interest or search full, partial, and temporary plates. When plate information is limited, they can narrow results using details such as make, color, body type, and other distinguishing features.

Access is role-based, every search requires a documented reason, and search activity is logged for review.

Fixed video shows what happened

Fixed video provides a continuous view of an area. Authorized users can watch live video or review recorded footage for broader context about activity at a location. It’s the traditional video camera experience.

The bottom line: Flock uses one camera body in two different ways. Each camera is configured for one job and only that job.
