Name: Megan Adcock

Job Title: Manager, People Operations

Start Date: 3/25/2019

Spirit Bird: Mockingbird, for both the literary reference and its noisiness!

Hello there! My name is Megan and I am the Manager of People Operations at Flock Safety. For most of the population, that probably seems like a strange title. People operations — what even is that? While there certainly are more technical definitions, I have always described it as the heart of the company. We serve a vital purpose to the business by supporting each and every person who walks through the door (albeit virtually these days!). We create environments that allow employees to do their best work, and also feel comfortable spending time doing what they love outside of Flock.

Most importantly, we make sure our people are set up for success at every stage of their employee journey. I feel honored to do this for such a phenomenal group of people serving such a powerful mission.

I joined the Flock when we were still small enough to have lunch together in one room. Now we are bursting at the seams with new faces! But long before I joined, I knew this was the kind of company I wanted to work for. When I was growing up, I didn’t like going outside — I am easily sunburnt and would get eaten alive by mosquitos every summer in the sticky Georgia heat. So I spent all of my time inside with my family. On Saturday nights, I was home watching a movie and eating popcorn with my parents, 0r staying up too late reading a comic book. I was always enamored with the story of some normal guy or gal answering a calling to be something more than they are (and the powers were pretty cool too). I loved being able to read the action, all from the safety of my own home.

When I went to college, I realized how much I had taken that safety for granted. The first night I spent in a dorm, I didn’t sleep a wink. There were posters up for self defense classes, and shops selling pepper spray. I am very fortunate to say that I have not been the victim of a crime, but knowing that others have was intolerable. I wanted to do something to help, to be a hero.

Then, when I least expected it, I received a LinkedIn message from none other than Garrett Langley, CEO and Co-founder of Flock Safety. The moment I learned about the company’s mission to eliminate crime, I was sold. The interview process was nerve wracking, because I wanted the role so badly. I was standing on my parents porch, the same porch where we would sit outside and drink sweet tea at family gatherings, when I got the call with the job offer. I was so grateful to get the opportunity to join a team of crime fighters!

There have been good days and bad ones in my almost two years with Flock, but never have I regretted my choice to join. Every day, I get to work with heroes. We are creating ethical technological solutions that help solve homicides. We are the eyes in the sky helping to recover kidnapped children and return them to their families. We are creating a safety net so that families like mine can have Saturday night movie nights secure in the safety of their homes. Sounds like something heroes do, doesn’t it? Sure, we don’t wear a fancy outfit and a cape (although nothing is stopping us), but we’re still heroes.

In order to accomplish this Herculean task, we need people. This company has to grow in a lot of different directions. We need passionate, intelligent, idealistic people to join those of us who are already fighting crime every day. We have to grow our people so that they can be the best possible support for the customers who rely on our tools. We need to create a phenomenal experience for every employee who chooses to join in this mission with us so that we are enriching both their life and their career.

I am incredibly honored and humbled to have been chosen to lead the charge in supporting all of the “people needs” of our flock of modern day crime fighters.
