Flock LPR cameras helped police identify the suspects behind an ongoing theft case at a home improvement retailer.
Ongoing Retail Theft Suspects Caught With Help From Store's LPR Cameras
Earlier this year, Cotati Police Department responded to an ongoing theft in progress at a home improvement store after the caller reported that someone had committed grand theft based on the value of the goods stolen. The suspects had shoplifted from the same location earlier that day before returning to steal more.
The store had Flock LPR cameras that can read license plates as cars enter the parking lot. Using LPR, the retailer provided officers with relevant vehicle information for the suspects.
Cotari police and other law enforcement agencies responded to the call and found the suspects' car in the parking lot. The suspects rammed their car into a Cotari police vehicle and left the area with police in pursuit.
As they were attempting to flee, the suspects' car crashed into another vehicle at an intersection. The suspects escaped on foot, and police eventually stopped and apprehended them.
Extend Your Threat Detection and Awareness to Your Parking Lot
Shrinkage is a significant issue for retailers. To combat shrink, retailers can extend threat awareness to their parking lots.
As shown in the scenario above, Flock’s LPR cameras are instrumental in identifying suspects and helping to stop ongoing theft that negatively impacts a retailer.
Flock LPR can identify vehicles by make, color, decals, and other identifying factors like roof racks.
