In a powerful stride toward a safer, more innovative future, the Town of Prosper has officially launched the first in-state Drone as First Responder (DFR) program in Texas, powered by Flock Safety’s automated drone technology. This milestone marks a new chapter in how public safety is delivered in one of North Central Texas’ fastest-growing communities.
“We want to get the reputation that Prosper is not the place bad guys want to come. Eyes in the sky—we’ll be there in 90 seconds. We will find you.”
Meeting Growth with Innovation
Since 2018, Prosper has seen a 50% surge in population, with new residents and businesses flooding into what was once a quiet, bedroom community. With rapid growth comes increasing pressure on law enforcement to meet rising demands—and Prosper PD saw technology as the key.
“Keeping up personnel-wise was very difficult,” said a representative from Prosper PD. “So we turned toward technology to assist us with policing this community.”
From Flock’s LPR cameras to mobile trailers with PTZ cameras, Prosper PD has fully embraced a technology-forward approach to public safety. The DFR program is now the latest addition to this growing ecosystem.
Drones Deployed in Under Two Minutes
Before the launch of DFR, Prosper’s average response time had nearly doubled due to population and traffic growth: from five minutes to ten. Now, drones can be on scene in under two minutes, providing rapid situational awareness and enhancing officer safety.
This isn’t just fast; it’s transformative.
In one example, a Flock LPR detected a vehicle tied to felony warrants. Within seconds, a drone was launched, located the vehicle, and coordinated with patrol officers to make a safe and successful stop.
“Our LPR systems are integrated with our drones,” explained the PD. “When we receive what we call a ‘Flock hit,’ the drone can launch immediately—faster than most patrol units can respond.”
Integrated, Intelligent, Intuitive
Every component of Prosper’s safety infrastructure works together:
- Flock LPRs scan for wanted or stolen vehicles.
- DFR drones launch autonomously and stream live footage to the operations room.
- Mobile Flock trailers bring visibility to high-traffic or high-risk areas.
And the best part? It’s designed to be simple.
“If I can do it, anybody can do it,” said one officer.
A Model for the State and the Nation
With this launch, Prosper becomes the first municipality in Texas to deploy an in-state DFR program, but it likely won’t be the last. As cities across the country look to technology to enhance safety, Prosper is setting the bar for what’s possible.
