One Week, Three Major Cases: Colorado Law Enforcement Solves Two AMBER Alerts, Homicide with Flock Safety
In one week, Colorado law enforcement solved two AMBER Alerts and a homicide using Flock Safety license plate readers, showcasing how real-time vehicle data helps agencies quickly locate suspects, recover victims, and keep communities safe.
In just one week, law enforcement agencies across Colorado successfully resolved three high-profile incidents with the help of Flock Safety license plate reader (LPR) technology. Two AMBER Alerts and a homicide investigation were each brought to safe and swift conclusions, underscoring how Flock’s tools are helping agencies protect communities across the state.
Boulder: Kidnapping and AMBER Alert Ends Safely
On a Monday evening, Boulder Police responded to a report of a 16-year-old girl forced into a vehicle. With the teenager’s safety at risk, there was no time to waste. Detectives quickly issued an AMBER Alert and turned to Flock Safety technology to locate the suspect.
Using license plate reader data, investigators found the vehicle in Thornton. Thanks to real-time alerts, officers were able to act quickly, safely recover the teen, and take the suspect into custody. Boulder detectives credited the speed and accuracy of the LPR technology for helping resolve the case without delay.
Parker: Homicide Suspect Captured in Hours
Just one day later, Parker Police were faced with another urgent case. There was a fatal shooting near a local skate park. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect’s vehicle, which was immediately cross-referenced using Flock cameras.
The license plate information led Douglas County deputies to the suspect’s car within less than three hours of the crime, and the suspect was swiftly located and apprehended. This case illustrates how rapid and accurate vehicle identification can provide investigators with the critical lead they need to make an arrest.
Chaffee County: AMBER Alert and Pursuit Ends Safely
Later that same week, Flock technology again played a decisive role in protecting a child in danger. Authorities issued a second AMBER Alert after a 14-year-old boy was believed to be with his noncustodial father, who also had an active warrant.
When a Flock camera in Poncha Springs alerted officers to the suspect’s vehicle, law enforcement from Chaffee County and Salida Police coordinated a rapid response. After a brief pursuit, officers deployed stop sticks to bring the chase to a safe conclusion. The child was reunited with his family, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Safer Communities Through Better Technology
These three cases show the tangible impact that Flock Safety technology has on building safer communities. From recovering missing children to helping detectives solve violent crimes, real-time data and alerts are giving law enforcement the tools they need to act faster and ensure that communities thrive.
