Secure by Design Pledge

The CISA Secure by Design Pledge is a voluntary commitment introduced by the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to fundamentally transform the landscape of software security. Instead of treating security as an afterthought or a "bolt-on" feature, the pledge encourages companies to embed robust cybersecurity measures into their products and services from the very earliest stages of design and development.

This initiative is driven by the understanding that a secure digital ecosystem requires technology producers to take greater ownership of customer security outcomes. The pledge outlines seven core, measurable goals that participants commit to advancing within a year. These include increasing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adoption, reducing the use of default passwords, systematically eliminating entire classes of vulnerabilities, improving the ease of security patch installation, publishing clear vulnerability disclosure policies, enhancing transparency in vulnerability reporting, and boosting customers' ability to gather evidence of intrusions.
